WOMEN for BW

An evening with Dr. Tererai Trent

The Mark Collier Lecture Series held in February 2018 was the perfect opportunity for Women for BW to gather and hear the story of Dr. Tererai Trent. Dr. Trent is an internationally recognized speaker for quality education and women’s empowerment. Denied schooling in her native home of Zimbabwe because she was female and poor, she taught herself to read and write. Making her way to the U.S., she earned a bachelor’s degree in agriculture education, a master’s degree and eventually a Ph.D.
Women for BW had the honor of meeting and mingling with Dr. Trent at a pre-reception held in the Kulas Musical Arts Building. From there the group gathered in Gamble Auditorium to hear Dr. Trent speak about her life, her dreams, and why as women we should never give up. Those in attendance found the evening uplifting and inspiring! Afterward, Dr. Trent autographed her book The Awakened Woman: Remembering & Reigniting Our Sacred Dreams, which focuses on "thinking globally and acting locally – in which local means to start from deep inside each of us."
