Susan Zanetti ‘91, ‘96

While attending BW, it was the people that Susan Zanetti ‘91, ‘96, was most passionate about. “I don’t have one favorite memory, but I have many favorite people,” she says.

People like legendary head women’s athletics and volleyball coach Marcia French ’63, former BW President Neal Malicky, vice president for student affairs Dr. Frances Lucas, and her Alpha Gamma Delta sorority sisters and friends. Each had a positive effect on Susan.

Susan chose BW after visiting many other schools.

“I looked all over,” she says. “I thought I was going to go to a state school, but when I came to BW, everything just felt right. A small, private liberal arts institution was the right choice for me.”

While earning a bachelor’s of science degree in education, Susan played volleyball and tennis and was the president of Alpha Gamma Delta.

“I was very involved in Greek life and student affairs,” she says. “I became involved all over.”

She graduated in 1991 and began working at BW in the admissions and alumni relations offices. She would later return to BW to earn a master’s of arts in education administration degree in 1996.

For the past 19 years, Susan has worked in sales and management in the pharmaceutical industry. She credits her BW education with helping her become a better sales professional.

“My BW training as a teacher helped me become an effective sales professional and manager,” she says. “Listening to students is a lot like listening to clients.”

Throughout the years, Susan has maintained her connection with the University, the last seven as a University trustee.

“It’s a group of very dedicated individuals who give a lot of their time and financial resources,” she says of the BW trustees. “From the strategic plan, budget, enrollment to the new engineering building, we always bring it back to the students and what’s best for BW students and faculty.”

It’s a position she does not take lightly. She feels it is important to give back to future Yellow Jackets.

“What’s better than helping a young person achieve a college education?” she asks. “I am in awe of the students today. Many are working two jobs while going to school. When you see what these students are doing, it makes you want to do more.”

And Susan has committed to doing more with her work in launching Women for BW, built out of the strong legacy of the former Baldwin Wallace Women’s Club founded in 1921.

“I was very excited two years ago to be one of the co-directors to launch Women for BW as the organization it is today,” she says. “I love watching this organization grow and getting to know the outstanding women whom I have met.”

The BW students and faculty who have submitted applications for Women for BW’s Giving Circle Awards have made a lasting impression on her.

“They blew me away,” she says. “I am so impressed with the students and faculty that have presented. The Women for BW Giving Circle event is one of my favorite nights of the year.”

Thank you, Susan!
