Sue Clark '85
According to an ancient Chinese saying, "If you plan for a year, plant rice. If you plan for ten years, plant trees. If you plan for a hundred years, educate your children."
Sue Clark has always believed strongly in the power of education to improve lives. Accordingly, she has acquired degrees from several colleges, including Ohio State University, Baldwin Wallace, and John Carroll University. She also received a diploma in stenography from Dyke College, which enabled her to work as a secretary for the government and later for Fairview Park Schools.
She first became involved with Baldwin Wallace through its weekend college, which she attended while working full-time for the government, graduating in 1985 with a degree in Humanities. In an effort to offer other young women the chance to attend BW, and as a way to honor her grandmother, she established the Viola Pearl Moore Zackman scholarship for female students at BW who are studying in the field of education.
In addition to offering a scholarship at BW, Susan and her husband Mike established the William and Shirley Snider Scholarship for students who volunteer at the Lake Erie Nature and Science Center in Bay Village, Ohio. Susan's mother, Shirley Snider, was very involved in helping to establish the Center in the 1950s.
Sue's other interests include traveling (she participated in two overseas Medical Brigades with MedWish, an organization that repurposes medical supplies to other countries), reading (she is an officer of the Friends of Fairview Park Library), sewing, and crocheting (she makes quilts for cancer survivors and items for a mission support group), and music (she has taken piano lessons for many years). She has also volunteered for the Cleveland Metroparks since 1997.
As a current member of the Recognition Committee of Women for BW, Sue has the opportunity to help select the recipients of the Women for BW Legacy Award and the recipients of the Giving Circle Awards. She is very proud and happy to be able to help enrich the lives of the students and faculty at BW.
Thank you, Sue!
