Maura Airel '10
Maura Airel ’10 was looking for the place she was meant to thrive, and from the moment she engaged with the Office of Admissions she knew that BW offered something special:
“The individuals I spoke with […] provided me with a personable and esteemed experience, which I have since referred to as the ‘BW way’ […] The custom, small ‘boutique-like’ feel to the classes and BW community, as well as the caliber of faculty and alumni were constant reminders during my time at BW of how I could not have landed at a better University.”
After transferring to BW from Ohio University, Maura’s time on campus was filled with impactful experiences—from meeting her husband, Greg, to, in her words, “the collaboration and sincere commitment from various BW professors and advisers who helped ensure that I remained on track with my studies during a bout of time that I was suffering from some medical concerns that affected my ability to attend classes.”
After graduating with a degree in Communication Studies as a member of the Lambda Pi Eta Honor Society, Maura moved to Charlotte, NC and began her career in Sales with the Cleveland-based, billion-dollar company, Dealer Tire, LLC, where she was quickly promoted to deliver on the launch of an e-commerce division of the company that piloted in Dallas, TX.
In 2013, building on her successes, Maura accepted a dream sales position in the pharmaceutical industry, returning to Cleveland to work at Kowa Pharmaceuticals. Three years later, she joined the Sales division at Sanofi, the fifth largest pharmaceutical company in the world, where she has held several roles over the last five years. She hopes that BW can continue to be a part of her journey: “I plan to pursue an MBA in Healthcare Management from BW once my children are older, as my passion for the art of business and the science of medicine has married me to the pharmaceutical industry.”
A dedicated alumna, her own BW experience has inspired Maura to give back to the university community:
“I would not be where I am professionally, or personally, if it weren't for my time at BW. It was truly a formative, happy time that I reflect upon fondly, and I want to always pay it forward to others who are on their quest to achieve a fulfilling career and personal life!”
When asked what she values most about being a part of Women for BW, Maura explains, “Being regularly connected to other BW women is a great source of energy, focus, and community. There are prevailing qualities among those who have attended BW and being surrounded with those types of people brings me back to not just some of the best times of my life, …but also reminds me how I can make anything happen because I'm a Yellow Jacket!”
Thank you, Maura!
