Ellie Templeton ’21 joined Women for BW because she wanted to impact the BW community in a meaningful way by giving back.

She graduated with a degree in criminal justice and works as a legal advocate for Lorain County Safe Harbor (also known as Genesis House). Safe Harbor is an organization that provides services for survivors of domestic violence.

“From legal advocacy to fulfilling basic needs, every workday is a different one," says Ellie. "Everyone that works within Genesis House aims to lift and support women in times of crisis.”

Her favorite thing about her career is the relationships she forms with her clients, many from underserved communities, and seeing them succeed.

“The women I work with come from all walks of life and have experienced many hardships," she says. "Getting to know them and helping them navigate the worst days of their lives is what drives my passion for this field of work. If I’m able to bring a smile to their faces by the end of the day, I know I’ve done my job right.”

Ellie says that studying criminal justice at BW helped her find a career in which she can help people in as many ways as possible.

“A degree in criminal justice is much more than preparing for a career in law enforcement," Ellie explains. "If you’re a person who wants to change the world and help others, criminal justice can meet these aspirations within the world of social justice and change!”

Thank you, Ellie!
