WOMEN for BW

Samantha Lucas '21

BW Music Theatre grad Samantha Lucas, Class of 2021, used her Women for BW Student Academic Enrichment Award to fund her study abroad trip to The Danish Academy of Musical Theater in March of 2020.

After spending just over a week in Denmark, Samantha’s trip was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the interruption, she was able to capitalize on her time there.

“I was able to educate and qualify my independent skills and knowledge within the music theater discipline, which will prepare me for professional work in the musical theater industry at the highest level,” she shares as she described what she learned during her time in Denmark. Further, she explained that in addition to the relationships she built with faculty and students at the university, she was able to broaden her worldview “in seeing differences in culture” compared to the United States.

Now living in New York City, she is signed with both KMR Commercial and The Krasny Agency, auditioning for theater, tv-film, and commercial projects. She teaches at her private studio, SHL Studios. Additionally, she has taken an administrative position working for the Communications Team at United Nations Global Compact, a corporate sustainability initiative which supports global companies that are committed to responsible business practices in the areas of human rights, labor, the environment, and corruption.

Samantha says that she “encourages all BW women to apply and bring the utmost talent, ambition, passion, heart, and motivation to this professional institution.” She summarizes that the opportunity will strengthen their basis of knowledge and world perspective, alongside engaging in an enriching educational experience.

Thank you, Samantha!
