Sam Dean '20

In Spring semester 2019, Sam Dean studied abroad with the CEA Program in Aix en Provence, France, where she was able to put the Giving Circle award towards tuition, airfare, room and board, travel, textbooks, and food costs.

Sam explains that “without the award, I would have been much more limited in the ability to explore the environment outside of my classroom.” Sam says that because of the financial help from the award, she was “able to make the most of my semester in France by applying what I learned to a deeper understanding of its people, history, and culture.”

Now, Sam is preparing to relocate to Iowa, where she will begin training for Americorps’ NCCC Winter 2021 program. The Americorps NCCC is a full-time service program for young adults to travel around the country and make a difference in communities through projects which emphasize education, sustainability, and youth development.

Sam’s advice for anyone interested in applying for the Giving Circle award is to be candid about what the applicant wants to do with the award and to make sure it coincides with your personal goals and aspirations.

Thank you, Sam!
