Kayla Webb '21

Early Childhood Education major Kayla Webb ’21 received the 2020 Women for BW Student Academic Enrichment Award to fund her dream of becoming a children’s author and illustrator. Following her graduation from Baldwin Wallace, Mascot Books published her children’s book “The Show and Tell That Changed the World” on July 6, 2021. The book catches a glimpse inside the lives of a group of diverse young ladies who share what makes them beautifully different. The Women for BW Award was able to cover a portion of the publishing cost for her book.

“I was able to share the message that every girl is unique and can use her difference to change the world around her for the better,” Kayla shared as she described how the award was able to help her. Kayla further explained that “the award helped me to take my dreams to reality, giving me the opportunity to hold live readings for elementary students and speaking engagements with high school students.”

Kayla is currently an elementary school teacher in Brunswick, Ohio. Kayla plans on continuing to promote her current book in schools, and local bookstores, as well as continuing to write more children’s books that inspire young children to step into their identity at a young age.

Kayla said that “the award helped me in more ways that I could ever imagine.  Not only did this award give me the funds I needed to turn my dream into a reality, but it instilled a confidence in me to know that no dream is too big or too out of reach,” and encourages students, faculty, and staff to consider applying to make their dreams come true.

Thank you, Kayla!
