Hannah Allenson was one of the 2018 Giving Circle award recipients. She used the awarded funds for a semester abroad at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia.

The Giving Circle award “had a significant impact” on Hannah’s experience at BW. By lessening financial burdens, Hannah was able to become more involved on campus through programs like the Alternative Break trips, one of which she led for the Center for Innovation and Growth colloquium students. On this Civil Rights-focused trip, the group traveled to Atlanta and Montgomery and visited impactful organizations such as the Equal Justice Initiative.

“The award has also made me more financially prepared to join the Peace Corps,” Hannah explained. She is currently serving as an AmeriCorps volunteer with the Greater Cleveland Neighborhood Centers Association. Her role as the Community Education Specialist involves running learning pods in conjunction with the school district where “we provide a safe space for students to do their zoom class in-person…we provide meals, activities, and help with classes.”

Hannah encourages those who are considering applying for the award to take advantage of the resources available at Baldwin Wallace. According to Hannah, Women for BW has shown her much support while attending BW and after graduating.

Thank you, Hannah!
