Dr. Kathryn Flinn

Dr. Kathryn Flinn received the Giving Circle award in 2019. This award allowed her to create a tree-ring laboratory to educate students in ecology and environmental science and promote the conservation of forests in the Greater Cleveland area.

Dr. Flinn was able to set up the necessary equipment to learn the ecological history of forests. “It’s fascinating what you can learn from tree rings, and I can’t wait to keep learning more as I pursue this line of research,” Dr. Flinn explained.

Although the award has impacted her personally, the biggest impact the award has had is on the lives of women BW students. By receiving the award, she could provide students with experiences that allowed them to develop skills, such as scientific thinking and perseverance.

“I am proud that these awesome women will take valuable skills they develop into futures I know will be filled with successful and meaningful work.”

Dr. Flinn will continue to be able to provide mentoring to many BW students in the future.

As for advice to someone considering applying for the Giving Circle Award, Dr. Flinn encourages applicants to “focus on the benefits of your work to the educational and career opportunities of BW women.”

Thank you, Dr. Flinn!
