Amy Martin-Madeley ’09, ’15, ’17 considers herself one of BW’s biggest fans. She likes the University so much, she chose to be a triple graduate, receiving her BSED, MAED, and her BSN all from BW. It’s no surprise that she also chose to join Women for BW.

“I joined because when I was a student, I was lucky enough to be chosen to receive a scholarship from Women for BW and I wanted to give something back,” she says.

She credits her favorite memory from BW as meeting her late husband, Robin, who was studying abroad from York St. John University in the UK. After Amy graduated and was teaching Pre-K, her husband became very ill. She became his caregiver while working full-time, learning to perform the medical tasks needed when he was at home. After his passing in 2015, Amy changed careers to become a nurse, graduating from BW’s accelerated BSN program in 2017.

She now works on an inpatient traumatic brain injury floor at a level 1 trauma center. Although her patients need a lot of care at first, she enjoys her work and being able to watch them recover.

“We have people who have feeding tubes and trachs and can’t walk or talk and to see them going home walking and talking is an amazing feeling," she says. "We also often have patients come back and visit us to show us their continued progress, which we love to see!”

Amy praises BW’s accelerated nursing program and its professors, such as Dr. Christine Kuchenrither, for providing support and a solid education for her career.

“I had the best professors,” she says. “They were so wonderfully supportive and understanding, and I feel like I got the best possible education to prepare me for my nursing career. I highly recommend the program to anyone interested in nursing.”

Thank you, Amy!
