Agnes Dover '76

Agnes Dover ’76 was taught to value higher education from a young age. Her parents, who emigrated to the U.S. from Hungary, encouraged her to take her studies seriously and to pursue a college degree. After observing a history class during a campus visit with her mother, Agnes knew that BW was the right place for her:

“The professor was a dynamic lecturer, and both my mother and I were impressed by the small class size and the personal attention he gave to each student. I enrolled after that, but I’m sure my mother wanted to sign up as well!”

Agnes was a member of the first group of BW students to attend the Model United Nations at Harvard University, an experience which she cites as the most impactful of her undergraduate career. As she recalls, “A new world opened up for me while we role-played as a delegation from Northern Ireland. With Professor Burke’s guidance, we immersed ourselves in learning international politics, but we also had a lot of fun meeting students from other universities and exploring Cambridge.”

After graduating from BW, Agnes went on to earn her J.D. from The Catholic University of America School of Law, where she served on the Law Review. For more than 38 years, she has practiced law in the area of government contracts, serving as deputy general counsel for procurement and technology transfer at the U.S. Department of Energy before joining the Washington, D.C.-based law firm of Hogan & Hartson in 1997.

In 2010, Hogan & Hartson merged with European-based Lovells to create Hogan Lovells, LLP, a top 10 global legal services firm. Agnes currently serves as senior counsel in the firm’s global regulatory practice group. Previously, she led the government regulatory practice group and served on its International Management Committee. She has published numerous articles and has also served as an American Bar Association committee chair. She also speaks fluent Hungarian.

In July 2019, Agnes was appointed chair of the Baldwin Wallace University Board of Trustees. As a BW alumna, she is inspired to give back to the campus community:

“I feel indebted to the BW community for their dedication and caring while I was a student. I would like to do as much as I can to make sure other young students have the same opportunity to learn and explore in a caring environment.”

When asked what she enjoys most about being a member of Women for BW, Agnes explains, “I love learning about the successes of BW students and faculty and being able to boast to my friends about the wonderful talent being groomed at my alma mater.”

Thank you, Agnes!
