WINTER 2024

The new year brought a change in leadership to Women for BW. At the end of 2023, we recognized the skillful leadership of outgoing Chair Annette Fetter '15 who handed the reins off to Samantha Pringle '97. We also welcomed incoming Vice-Chair Kathy Papp '96, '02, who has served on the recognition committee and held the role of secretary for the past two years, and incoming Secretary Courtney Zeffer ’08 (photo at right) who is serving on the recognition committee. Thank you to these amazing women for your dedication in supporting women BW students!
Now in 2024, our Legacy Award application process is underway with recognition committee members reviewing applications. Members also celebrated Galentine's Day on the BW campus handing out candy packages to our women-identifying students with encouraging notes and an invitation to apply for the Legacy Award.
Next, is our Women for BW Recognition Event on Tuesday, March 19, during which we will recognize our 2023 Giving Circle student and faculty recipients and 2024 Legacy Award Winner at BW's Center for Innovation & Growth. We hope to see you there!

Uplifting BW Women on Galentine's Day Written by Annette Fetter '15
Women for BW Members spent their Galentine’s Day – a global holiday that celebrates women’s friendship – passing out candygrams to women in BW's Student Union. The candygrams included messages of encouragement, advice, and well wishes sent in from fellow Women for BW members.
It was also a chance to share information about Women for BW's Legacy Award, an award of more than $1,000 awarded each spring to one exemplary BW women-identifying student based on academic record, professionalism, future plans, goals, and needs. The evening brought joy to each of the 114 students we connected with and the volunteers!
 Member Spotlight: Samantha Pringle '97
Women for BW Chair Samantha Pringle ’97 says it is the little memories she cherishes when she thinks back on her time at BW.
Memories like “lunches in the Colony Room; having dinner with my friends at precisely 5 p.m. every day; going to Speed Wok; taking ballet, weightlifting, and canoeing (for credit!), and trekking from Victoria House to Ernsthausen in the middle of winter.”
Those memories almost didn’t happen because Samantha was set on attending Heidelberg University in Tiffin. Read more about Samantha in the full article here.

BW Becomes First Collegiate Chapter of Collaborative to End Human Trafficking Written by Joyce DeGirolamo
In December, BW became the first collegiate chapter of the Collaborative to End Human Trafficking. Spearheading the effort to address this widespread societal issue is Dr. Christy Walkuski, BW associate professor of education and co-director of the Leadership in Higher Education master's program.
For more than 13 years, Walkuski has been a volunteer with the organization to help raise awareness about human trafficking and local anti-trafficking efforts. Walkuski credits a 2022 Women for BW Giving Circle grant for helping her transform her vision into reality. Through the generosity of donors, Walkuski's initiative received $4,600 in funding to launch the new organization. BW's connection to social justice and the Collaborative to End Human Trafficking was further cemented in December when BW Vice President for Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement Ellen Zegarra was named to the Board of Trustees for the Cleveland-based human rights organization.
