Celebrating 10 Years with a Gift to the BW Endowment

The BW MBA Association promised a surprise announcement on June 21, 2019 to close out its 10-Year Anniversary Gala: the establishment of a $65,000 endowment fund within the Baldwin Wallace University Endowment.

The fund will support Baldwin Wallace University as it generates resources for the MBA Association (MBAA) to provide special events and engagements, scholarship resources for the School of Business, and programs and initiatives consistent with the mission of the organization.

MBAA co-founder and president Scott Monaco ’10 provided the keynote address at the gala event. He reviewed the history of the BW MBAA and how the organization came together in the depths of the Great Recession and, as a team, emerged stronger together. With a dedicated and diverse group of MBA alumni volunteers in place, the MBAA is poised to push to new heights with a focus on broadening networks and collaborative efforts.

“In the coming years, the MBA Association will be looking to drive the strategic initiatives around our network and synergize with campus groups like Professional Development and the School of Business as well as cross-collaborate with regional stakeholders. Our goal is to make BW a destination on both a literal and virtual level,” said Monaco. “The MBAA has arrived at a decision to endow much of our resources aimed at building our network, providing scholarship resources to the School of Business, and pursuing our mission for years to come,” he continued.

Accepting the $65,000 endowment gift was BW's VP of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement Patrick Dunlavy ’71. In congratulating the MBAA on its 10 year anniversary, he said, “This [gift] is an incredible move which has a profound impact on so many people. This endowment will help the MBAA in helping BW to positively impact the lives of students and those in our community”. He also quipped that the “Big Check” created for the presentation was, physically speaking, the largest he had accepted as VP.

Dunlavy went on to say that the MBAA’s endowment is one of the first from a BW volunteer organization, but it is a theme he would like to see continue. The proceeds generated allow for sustained, quantifiable resources for volunteer organizations to pursue their initiatives.

The MBAA is looking forward to developing strategies over the coming months that maximize the impact of the endowment while partnering with the Centers of Alumni Engagement and Professional Development and School of Business along with external partners.
