Dear alumni and donors of BW,
Earlier this week, Vice President of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement Ellen Zegarra announced she has accepted a position outside higher education and will leave BW at the end of January.
Ellen joined BW in 2016 and became vice president in 2022. Her exceptional work has enhanced and increased alumni engagement. Your support, along with the efforts of her team, has generated unprecedented levels of donor contributions and annual fund support that benefit students, provide services, and foster an outstanding BW experience.
Ellen shares with you, “BW and its mission will always have a special place in my heart. It has been an honor to know and work with such passionate and dedicated alumni, donors, and friends of the university. My support for this organization doesn’t end with my departure. I remain committed to championing BW and will encourage others to be supportive philanthropically.”

This change comes as we prepare for the next president of Baldwin Wallace University, which will be announced later this semester. We are building a strong transition plan that supports the uninterrupted work of the philanthropy and alumni engagement team while maintaining critical connections to our donors, foundations, and alumni network. A transition plan will allow time for the next president to thoughtfully expand the leadership team with this critical role.
Please join me in thanking Ellen for her work and wishing her the best in her next endeavor. It has been an honor to work alongside such a passionate and dedicated person.
